  Mary went to Bladen Hall to live with her uncle Manoel Gracis, who had 3 daughters and a son. Her future husband Augustus Gonsalves was already living in Bladen Hall. Mary was born Mary Agusta, but her surname was later changed to "Gonsalves" when her father died and her mother re-married, to Agus Gonsalves. Family had a shop in Enmore. Mary had ten children but five died in childhood.
